Free split sheet generator for songwriters and producers

Record who wrote the song and who owns the recording while everyone still agrees. Enter the names and shares, we check they add up to exactly 100%, and you print it or save it as a PDF to sign.

Most royalty fights start with a conversation nobody wrote down

Three people spend an evening writing a song. Everyone assumes an equal split, nobody says it out loud, and nothing is signed. A year later the song is on a playlist, one writer is registered for half, another for a third, and the money is frozen while the societies wait for the writers to agree.

A template does not fix this on its own. Percentages typed into a document drift: 33%, 33% and 33% leave one percent unassigned, and a producer who adds a beat after the first draft is quietly left out. The paper looks official but has never been checked.

A split sheet that checks its own maths

The generator keeps shares as exact figures, so three equal writers come out as 33.34, 33.33 and 33.33 and the total is always exactly 100. It will not let you print a sheet that adds up to 99% or 101%, and it flags a name entered twice.

It separates the two things people mix up. The songwriting split decides who is paid as a writer and publisher. The master split decides who owns the recording. You can fill in one or both, then print the result as a clean page with a signature line for every person.

  • Songwriting and master splits kept separate
  • Exact maths: shares that always total 100%
  • Fields for society, IPI number and publisher on each person
  • Print or save as PDF, copy as text, or download a .txt file
  • Nothing is uploaded: it all stays in your browser

How to make a split sheet

  1. 1

Add the song title and, if you have them, the artist, ISWC and ISRC.

  2. 2

List every writer, with a role and a share. Use Split equally if you all agreed on equal shares.

  3. 3

Open More details to add each person's society and IPI number.

  4. 4

Switch on the master split if you also want to record who owns the recording.

  5. 5

Fix anything the checker flags, then print or save the PDF and have everyone sign.

What a split sheet can and cannot do

A signed split sheet is written evidence of what the people involved agreed, and it is the document societies, distributors and publishers ask for when two registrations disagree. It is only as good as the agreement behind it.

It is not a contract and not legal advice. For a large release, a label deal or a sample, have a music lawyer review the agreement. The tool checks the arithmetic, not the fairness.

Questions about the split sheet generator

Signed splits are step one

Once the sheet is signed we register every writer and share with the societies, so the money reaches the right people.
