Music catalog valuation calculator: what is your catalogue worth?
Enter what your catalogue earns after fees and see a realistic value range. It uses the earnings-multiple method buyers use, and it explains what pushes the multiple up or down.
Headlines say catalogues sell for millions. What about yours?
Famous catalogues make the news, and the numbers have nothing to do with a smaller catalogue earning a few thousand a year. Independent songwriters and labels still want to know whether an offer is fair, or whether the income they own could be worth borrowing against or selling.
The honest answer is a range, not a figure, and most guides stop at the formula. They do not say that the multiple depends on how old the catalogue is, whether income is growing, and whether one song carries the rest.
A range built from the same factors buyers weigh
Buyers value a catalogue as a multiple of its yearly net earnings. This calculator starts from the range small independent catalogues usually trade in, then adjusts it for age, direction of travel and how dependent you are on one song. The result is a low, typical and high value.
It also tells you what is holding the value down and what would raise it, so the number becomes a to-do list. Clean metadata, complete registrations and income spread across songs all push the multiple up.

How to value a music catalogue
- 1
Add up the last one to three years of net earnings and take the yearly average.
- 2
Say what you own: songs, recordings, or both.
- 3
Choose the catalogue's age, where its income is heading, and how much one song contributes.
- 4
Read the low, typical and high values and the multiple behind them.
- 5
Use the list of what would raise the value to prepare before you talk to a buyer.
Treat this as a rule of thumb, not an appraisal
Published industry material puts catalogue multiples at roughly 3 to 15 times yearly net earnings, with large, famous or very old catalogues going far higher. Our starting ranges sit near the middle of what small catalogues trade at, then move with the factors you choose.
A real sale also depends on rights, contracts, territories and who is buying. If you are considering selling or borrowing against your catalogue, get an independent valuation from a specialist.
